Results from the national 2018 NHS staff survey have been published this week and show just how much there is to be proud of at Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C)

The NHS Staff Survey is carried out annually across England to capture staff views of their experience at work and of NHS services.

More than 1, 200 of our staff (57%) of staff responded to the survey, which is above the national average of 53.3%, to tell us what they like about working here and what they would like to see improved.

Where we did well

  • NCH&C is the best performing community trust in the country in regards to acting fairly with regard to career progression / promotion regardless of any protected characteristic.
  • The results showed that in the last four years the number of staff who would recommend NCH&C as a place to work has increased from 42.4% to 68.3%.  This is above average for community trusts in England (59.4%).
  • Almost 80% of staff agreed that if a friend or relative needed treatment they would be happy with the standard of care provided at NCH&C which is above the national average for community trusts of 74.8%
  • The theme of staff engagement has significantly improved and is now above the national average this year.

Chief Executive, Josie Spencer, said “It is fantastic news more staff took part in the survey this year and told us about their experiences.  The latest staff survey shows positive increases in the majority of themes and no change in the rest which demonstrates another year of continuous improvement at NCH&C.

“I am already proud of our outstanding Trust. However, being ‘outstanding’ doesn’t mean we’re perfect. We are always keen to find out where we can develop and the staff survey is a very useful tool to highlight areas where we need to improve.

“Overall the results have highlighted positive progress despite a challenging context, nationally and locally. The focus moving forward will need to be to continue to build on progress already made, but to increase the pace in some areas.

“It is thanks to the dedication and commitment of our teams across Norfolk and Suffolk that we continue to provide outstanding care at the heart of our local communities.”
