Volunteering at the Priscilla Bacon Centre, Colman Hospital Unthank Road Norwich

The Priscilla Bacon Centre for Specialist Palliative Care Services provides specialist advice and support for any patients with life limiting illness and those close to them. While many patients are well supported by their primary care teams, some have more complex needs that require input from our specialist multidisciplinary team.

Volunteers are an integral part of the Priscilla Bacon Centre. They support our dedicated staff teams in many roles including Day Care, In-Patient unit, Coffee Bar, on reception and in administration. The roles are diverse and there is bound to be something to suit you.  We are currently looking for volunteers to help in the following roles:

Volunteer Drivers

Volunteer drivers allow patients and carers to access Day Therapy, Complementary Therapy, Bereavement sessions or visiting relatives.   You will need access to your own car and have a full clean driving licence.  Your insurance will need to cover you as a Volunteer Driver.   You will receive a mileage allowance in this role.

In-Patient Unit Volunteer

Our IPU has 16 beds, with 4 single rooms and 4 bays. We welcome volunteers to help us serve at meal times, top up water jugs, make beds, refresh the linen cupboard, sit with patients who would like some company and any other tasks that would help the nursing team. This is a hands-on role which is rewarding and diverse.  

Coordinating creative activities for Day Centre patients

Assisting with the planning and coordinating of activities for Day Unit patients. Including Art and Crafts, Cooking, Quizzes and researching ideas for new activities.

Reception Volunteer

Reception is at the heart of the Unit where we welcome patients, their families, staff, volunteers and other visitors. We are looking for volunteers to cover the reception area evenings and weekends.

 Coffee Bar

Volunteer provide a welcoming environment for visiting relatives and patients by making drinks and providing a listening ear.

  • Complementary therapy for patients and their carers
  • Flower Arranging
  • Bereavement Support
  • Chaplaincy
  • Administration
  • Breathlessness Clinic
