Helping patients move again at Ogden Court Community Hospital
Patients at Ogden Court Community Hospital are benefitting from a new specialist exercise machine that is transforming rehabilitation sessions and restoring confidence for people recovering from illness, injury and surgery.
Thanks to generous grant funding from the Alan Boswell Group Charitable Trust and the Paul Bassham Charitable Trust, via NCHC Charitable Fund, the hospital's physiotherapy team has been able to purchase a MOTOmed - a motor assisted movement therapy device designed to help patients regain strength, mobility and independence.
Supporting recovery at every stage
The MOTOmed is a seated exercise device that gently supports cycling style movements for arms or legs. It can be used by patients with limited mobility, including those who are frail, deconditioned, or recovering from stroke, fractures or prolonged hospital stays.
For many patients at Ogden Court, the first step back to independence can feel daunting. The MOTOmed provides:
- safe, supported movement for those unable to exercise independently
- passive, assisted or active training modes, tailored to each patient
- improved circulation and muscle strength
- a boost in confidence and motivation
Physiotherapists can adjust the settings to match each individual's needs, ensuring therapy is both safe and effective.
A boost for patient confidence
Community hospitals play a vital role in helping people recover closer to home. Modern, adaptable equipment like the MOTOmed enables staff to start rehabilitation earlier and support patients who may struggle with traditional exercise programmes.
Patients have already reported feeling encouraged by being able to see and feel their progress - whether that's completing their first assisted session or gradually building up active movement.
Funded through generosity
This purchase was made possible through grants from the Alan Boswell Group Charitable Trust and the Paul Bassham Charitable Trust, distributed by NCHC Charitable Fund. Their support ensures community hospital patients have access to high quality equipment that enhances NHS care but may not be available through standard budgets.
Their generosity means:
- faster, more effective rehabilitation
- better patient experience
- greater independence at discharge
- improved long term outcomes
Caring together
This project is a clear example of how charitable funding makes a tangible difference to patient care. By working with local funders and supporters, we can continue enhancing services across our community hospitals.
