A Space for Reflection: New Multi-Faith Prayer Room
The room was officially opened by John Kennedy who is the Chair of the Norfolk Community Health & Care Charitable Fund and Non-Executive Director for the Trust, alongside staff who had originally asked for this provision, marking a moment shaped by listening, collaboration and shared values. Their involvement reflected what the space represents: a response to real needs, raised by those who work and receive care at the hospital every day.

Designed as a quiet place for reflection, prayer and pause, the room provides a neutral, inclusive environment where people can step away from busy wards and waiting areas. Whether someone is seeking comfort during a difficult time, a moment of gratitude, or simply a peaceful place to breathe, the prayer room is open to everyone.
Staff had highlighted the importance of having a dedicated space that recognises the diverse beliefs within the hospital community. Patients and visitors often spend long hours on site, sometimes during challenging moments, and the new room offers somewhere to find reassurance and balance.
Speaking at the opening, Carol Plunkett, Charity Development and Project Manager thanked staff for championing the idea and for ensuring that compassion and inclusivity remain central to hospital life. This room is about dignity, respect and care beyond clinical treatment, she said. It's a reminder that wellbeing is emotional and spiritual as well as physical.

The Charity supported the creation of the prayer room with the Estates team, chaplaincy lead and equality, diversity and inclusivity (EDI) representatives. Thanks to the generosity of staff fundraisers, whose contributions helped to fund the space, these services improve the hospital experience for everyone. It stands as another example of how charitable support can make a meaningful difference to everyday care.
The multi-faith prayer room is now open daily and available to all who wish to use it - a quiet space at the heart of the hospital, created by the community, for the community.
