NCH&C partners with AccessAble to enhance site accessibility

NCH&C has partnered with AccessAble to create detailed accessibility guides for each of our main sites.

Each guide contains detailed information and photos to help patients and visitors feel confident and prepared when attending an appointment at NCH&C.

AccessAble provides information on:

  • Parking
  • Hearing loops
  • Steps and ramps
  • Accessible toilets
  • Locations of clinics/services
  • What to expect in each building (appearance, layout, noise levels, etc)
  • Photos of key features (entrance, waiting rooms, accessible toilets, clinic rooms, etc)

Attending a healthcare appointment can be a stressful experience - even more so when it's in an unfamiliar location or you have additional needs. Complex sites, anxieties before appointments, and accessibility issues can all lead to difficulties attending appointments or even missed appointments. By providing patients information about our locations and facilities in advance, we can help support more patients to attend their appointments and access care.

Everyone has different accessibility needs: while one visitor might need a hearing loop, another might find shiny floors and surfaces disorientating. Our AccessAble guides don't make assumptions. By providing factual details about our sites, visitors can make decisions and plans based on their own accessibility needs, requesting adaptations or adjustments where required.

AccessAble also supports colleagues who are travelling to an unfamiliar site for work, candidates attending job interviews, and anyone else who's visiting an NCH&C site - from suppliers to volunteers. Promoting our AccessAble guides to all visitors helps create an environment where everyone feels welcome.

We will be producing more AccessAble guides for additional locations in the coming months. If you spot an issue with one of our AccessAble guides, or want to suggest an update, please contact EstatesServiceandQualityTeam@nchc.nhs.uk
