NCH&C supports those from the Armed Forces community (veterans, cadets, reservists, spouses, and family members) with pathways into employment in the NHS. We work closely with Step into Health, the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), and Forces Family Charity to offer tailored support.

If you're a Service Leaver, please register with Step into Health. Your Resettlement team can help with this, or you can contact us via the Armed Forces Aware email.

We are proud signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant, accredited Veteran Aware, and holders of a Silver Defence Employers Award.

As part of our commitment, we offer guaranteed interviews to Armed Forces community members who meet the essential criteria for our roles.

Service in the Armed Forces presents unique challenges, and veterans often need support navigating civilian systems. This can sometimes be a matter of 'translation' - understanding how military experience relates to civilian life. We also recognise the impact on families, who may experience frequent moves and separation from friends and family.

Being Veteran Aware ensures that the Armed Forces community is not disadvantaged compared to other patients. Members of the Armed Forces community might experience physical or mental health challenges due to the unique demands and sacrifices of their service. Through Op RESTORE and Op COURAGE, the NHS provides dedicated physical and mental health services for veterans and their families across England.

In May 2025 NCH&C launched the Armed Forces Community Network at NCH&C.

The NCH&C Armed Forces community network has staff trained and experienced in supporting the Armed Forces community.

We also have links with the Armed Forces, other trusts and charities

What does the network do?
The Network exists to:

  • Provide a focal point, community, and advocate for the Armed Forces Community.
  • Support Norfolk Community Health and Care (NCH&C) NHS Trust in developing and delivering Armed Forces-related policies and projects-for both staff and patients.

How do we work?
We support each other and the wider community through active discussion, openness, and-if you choose-by acting as a visible touchpoint for colleagues seeking support or information.

  • We meet online each quarter, with occasional in-person gatherings.
  • We engage with a wide range of external groups and are always looking to grow our network.
  • We collaborate with CCS's Veterans Network, and members of both are welcome to attend each other's events and meetings.

Become an Armed Forces Champion
When you join NCH&C you have the opportunity to become an Armed Forces Champion. You will act as a key contact for:

  • Advice
  • Signposting
  • Support on Armed Forces-related issues (for both staff and patients)
