Our service

Priscilla Bacon Lodge (PBL) is a specialist inpatient service for people who have complex palliative care needs including physical, emotional, social and/or spiritual needs.

It is a short-stay unit which has been providing palliative care to local people for more than 25 years.

A patient is referred to PBL when their needs require support from a specialist multi-disciplinary palliative care team, and when this cannot be adequately provided in a person’s current place of care, or within their own home.

For example, patients can be admitted for inpatient care if they require:

  • Complex symptom management
  • Rehabilitation
  • Help with complex psych-social problems
  • End of life care

Specialist palliative care nurses and health care assistants provide intensive 24-hour care, which is supported by specialist palliative care doctors and a multi-disciplinary team who assess and review symptom control and goals daily.

Complimentary therapies are offered to patients and close relatives/carers as appropriate, including massage, aromatherapy, reiki and music therapy.
